UNISON mobilises to break Government pay freeze with activity taking place in all service groups.
- Local Govt: 70% of members reject 1% pay offer. Industrial action ballot opened 23 May
- Health: conference decision to organise sustained pay campaign up to and including industrial action following Government imposing a pay freeze on all staff due an increment rise, and awarding just 1% to those at the top of the scale
- Higher education: members consulted on 2% pay offer for 2014/15.
- Energy & voluntary sector: negotiations continue
The various pay disputes will be conducted by the separate service groups, however the union is committed to a union wide campaign to break the pay freeze and the region intends to run a cross service group campaign on pay wherever possible.
NHS National Day of Protest : Thursday 5 June
Following an emergency motion passed at the Health Service Group Conference health members are asked to build a strong campaign to protest over the government’s pay settlement starting with a day of protest on Thursday 5 June.
Nearly all health branches in the region have activities planned to demonstrate their anger at the NHS pay announcements and the impact this will have on patients and staff morale. Activities planned include lunchtime rallies, photo stunts, t-shirt demonstration, stalls in reception and canteen areas, encouraging members to wear stickers or lanyards and desk drops
More than half a million members in Local Government are currently being balloted over strike action for fair pay. The ballot opened on 23 May and will close on 23 June. The LG Service Group Executive (SGE) will meet after the ballot closes to consider the results. If there is a strong yes vote then it is likely that a one day strike will be called for Thursday 10 July.
If members haven’t received their ballot paper at their home address by 29 May they should request a replacement either online at unison.org.uk/my-unison/welcome or by calling the ballot helpline on 0800 0 857 857. The deadline for doing this is 12 noon on 18 June
Higher Education Offer
Members in Higher Education have been consulted on the 2014/15 “full and final” 2% pay offer from the employers. The deadline for branches to respond was Friday 23 May and the Higher SGE will meet on 30 May to discuss the consultation result.
